How to stay positive in the local church

Charles Bridges (1794-1869) was a pastor and theologian in England. His book Christian Ministry with an Inquiry into the Causes of Its Inefficiency is considered a classic.  Here is some wonderfully practical advice from Bridges which will be beneficial to all workers in the church:

The shortest way to peace will be found in casting ourselves upon God for our daily pardon of deficiencies and supplies of grace, without looking too eagerly for present fruit.  Hence our course of effort is unvarying but more tranquil.  It is peace – – not slumber – -rest in the work – – not from it. (178-179, emphasis added).

We must remind ourselves that if we rest only when we see immediate results, we will soon be exhausted.

  2. I disagree sometimes it’s more Christ-like to rest from the work rather than in the work.
