Unfortunately my work schedule does not allow me to attend Sunday services. I really do miss church.

I could go on Wednesdays but most churches in my area are doing away with mid-week services opting for in home bible studies instead.

As a young girl, I could always count on mom's standard Sunday dinner. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, some sort of bean and cornbread. From the above I am sure you have gathered I am a southern girl! I miss that and I thought I would never want chicken on a Sunday again. lol

I have noticed a cavalier attitude towards church among prodigal Christians as well. I often hear the old adage, " I can worship God anywhere. I don't have to be in church." While this is true, I agree with your post. We miss so much by not being in the body. We are to encourage one another, lift one another up, pray for one another. How can we do that if we are not together in God's house?

Yes, it is! One of my favorites. Thank you so much for posting that, Chris. What a fantastic way to begin my day! On Christ alone! I heard Travis Cottrell sing it about a year ago at a conference where Beth Moore was teaching, and here is a link to his version. I love this version by Kristyn Getty just as much.

Hannah, thanks for the comment. I think I understand your point there. However, we shouldn't, nor can we afford, to feel bitter and be consumed by hate. I don't think that ceasing to feel anger and bitterness is ever wrong.

However, biblically, forgiveness is about much more than that. I build my case in Unpacking Forgiveness.

i've just sat my oxford aptitute test (thinking skill assessment) and my essay question was 'when, if ever, is forgiveness wrong?'... a tricky question. in my opinion, it's never wrong if it's truly heartfelt.

I think you are right about the church thing. We seem to set the bar higher for other members of the congregation than we do for ourselves. But then we get angry when non-believers do the same to us.

I have to keep telling myself in situations like this that they are offending God and not me. That is what keeps me from losing it at times. It has also helped me to see these people more in tune with the way God sees them. I think we tend to forget that without the mercy and grace of God and His forgiveness, we would be those very people we are so angry and bitter towards.

Inge, thanks for that response. I think there is real wisdom in it. You are on to something about how we are with people close to us.

I also wonder if we don't tend to "hang on" to things more at church because we go in with the premise that everything should be right there of all places.
